Nonprofit Community Outreach Volunteer Opportunities
Community Service/Volunteer Committee Identifies sites for interested volunteers from the membership to provide service hours to area businesses and services. Collects volunteer hours submitted at the end of the year to assist in completing the Annual Report of Service to National AARP.

Service sites:
The Carying Place: This organization assists families in achieving self-sufficiency. Volunteers can mentor, assist, and help with the center's activities. Please register with Carying Place at 919-462-1800 or info@thecaryingplace.org.

Dorcas Ministries: This organization serves the community through several programs. Volunteers can work in the resale shop, food pantry, or client services. Volunteers work 3-hour shifts. To contact call 919-469-9861 or https://dorcasnc.org/contact/

Total Life Center: An adult daycare center where volunteers may assist participants with daily activities and events and participate with other AARP volunteers on bingo days throughout the year. Please register at 919-469-4081
Meals on Wheels: Volunteers will pick up meals and deliver them to homes on a route provided at the pickup center. A car is required for this activity. Please register at 919-833-1749 or https://www.wakemow.org/volunteer

Read and Feed: An after-school literacy program for children. Volunteers can become tutors or work behind the scenes with food pickup and delivery, book sorting and mobile classroom preparation. Please register at 919-463-9744 or https://readandfeed.org/get-involved/

CAP: Citizens Assisting Police is a group that volunteers with the police at activities and events. There are CAP programs in Cary and Apex.

Toward Zero Waste: Promoting waste-conscious, earth-friendly practices beyond Recycling to Reuse, Reduce, Repurpose, Refill and much more. Volunteers can join a Maker’s Meet-up to sew reusable cloth bags for the Cary Farmers Market or work with the S.H.A.R.E. program to reduce food waste in Wake County schools.
